Description

SUMMARY

The Front Desk Attendant is responsible for the daily operation of the front desk including cash handling, membership sales, and good working knowledge of current and upcoming events. Attendant will monitor access to the Recreation Center, welcome guests, answer phones, and ensure the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies while delivering outstanding customer service.

 

**This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

 

Critical Safety Skills and Abilities

Conducts the following duties, where a momentary lapse of attention can have a disastrous consequence while supervising vulnerable populations:

 

  1. Responsible to manage high stress situations
  2. Responsible for direct communication with customers, staff, and supervisors
  3. Responsible for making split-second decisions to implement the emergency action plan, as it relates to emergencies in or about the Recreation Center involving children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act in a professional manner at all times.
  • Provide quality customer service.
  • Regular and timely attendance to work.
  • Oversee facility and enforce rules and regulations regarding proper use.
  • Provide knowledgeable information to citizens regarding recreation programs, activities, trips, membership fees, and rental information.
  • Arrange chairs, tables, sporting equipment or exercise equipment in designated rooms or other areas for scheduled group activities such as banquets, parties, group meetings, or events.
  • Demonstrate proper methods of equipment storage and cleaning to safeguard facilities and equipment.
  • Register customers for classes, memberships, evaluate class enrollments, and notify patrons of activity schedules and registration requirements, and to confirm/cancel classes as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary facility. General maintenance is a part of your job. Duties that should be done daily include: Cleaning Front Desk area desk, counters, coffee area, floors, taking out trash and recycling, cleaning weight room equipment and floors, cleaning restrooms, washing towels, mopping floors, and other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe and controlled environment; identify hazardous conditions and eliminate or minimize them.
  • Monitor access to the Recreation Center by ensuring memberships are current and others are paying for day use and signing in before granting admission to the facility.
  • Issue equipment to be used by participants and keep track of the inventory of equipment. Upon return of equipment, the Front Desk Attendant will check the equipment to insure that is has not been damaged.
  • Sell designated products to patrons while maintaining a balanced cash register.
  • Keep non-public areas secure at all times.
  • Be prepared and organized.
  • Recognize and respond effectively to incidents and emergencies. Provide proper emergency care (first aid/CPR/AED) when necessary.
  • Expected to report to work free from the effects of illegal drugs, or alcohol and REPORTS to work free from impairment due to prescription drugs.
  • Expected to perform other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING (Certification/Licensure)

The preferred way to obtain the minimum knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below. The city reserves the right to allow substitutions in the event that a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.

 

Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), preferred

Special License, Certifications and Designations

  • Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or the ability to obtain during staff training that is held bi-annually

An individual in this position is Frequently required to communicate information so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. More than 50% of the time will remain in a stationary position; move, traverse along varying surfaces; and constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery. 

The individual must be able to Occasionally  stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, bend, and lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. 

The individual must be able to position self to move about in cabinets; the ability to observe at close or far range with depth perception.
