SUMMARY

Maintains and repairs property of the City such as streets, wastewater systems, pipeline, manholes, and other citywide areas as assigned.

 

 

** This position is classified as safety sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The statements below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individual(s) assigned to this position.   • Receives and follows written work orders or verbal instructions from Crew Leader I Crew Foreman.
  • Assists in the maintenance of streets, water, wastewater system and other public property. Loads and unloads trucks.
  • Operates motor vehicles.
  • Lays pipeline and repairs manhole.
  • Operates backhoe to dig trenches for water and sewer pipe.
  • Picks up and delivers refuse such as but not limited to tree limbs to landfill through operation of truck.
  • Repairs streets and sidewalks with asphalt, cold patching materials, and concrete. Reads water meters and records reading in logbook.
  • Maintains and repairs municipal buildings' plumbing and electrical systems, including replacing worn or defective parts such as switches and fuses.
  • Replaces worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, and belts, in machines and equipment such as truck, street sweeper, and riding mower.
  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and required.


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The preferred way to obtain the minimum knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below. The city reserves the right to allow substitutions in the event that a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

One to three months related experience and/or training

 

Special Certificates, Licenses, and Designations

Texas Class “C" Driver's License
Heavy Equipment preferred
