Description

SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of City Property including, but not limited to Parks, City rights-of-way, Highway medians, playground equipment, mowers, tractors, and tools.

***This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The statements below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the individual(s) assigned to this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified in this position. The position description is subject to change by the city as the needs of the city and requirements of the position change.

  • Receive oral and/or written work assignments from the superintendent
  • Ability to read and understand instructions and directives given in English
  • Ability to write simple work reports and other basic correspondence in English
  • Mow grass and trim weeds in City Parks and on other City Properties
  • Clean and maintain landscaping and flower beds
  • Paint interior and exterior walls, trim, fencing, etc.
  • Perform minor repairs to City property – electrical, plumbing, etc…
  • Repair and replace brick and/or cinder block walls and structures
  • Form, reinforce, and pour concrete sidewalks, batting cages, foundations
  • Perform routine maintenance on city vehicles and equipment
  • Report to work free from the effects of illegal drugs, or alcohol and free from impairment due to prescription drugs.
  • Maintain regular attendance as scheduled
  • Observe and follow all safety rules and regulations
  • Report all accidents and incidents to the immediate supervisor on time
  • Operate dangerous equipment including tractors and backhoes
  • Operate riding mower on City and State Highway Right-of-Ways
  • Regular attendance is required
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING (Certification/Licensure)

The preferred way to obtain the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below. The City reserves the right to allow substitutions in the event that a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 months of relevant work experience may be substituted for education requirements
  • Texas Class “C” Drivers’ License
  • Texas Class “A” Commercial Drivers’ License – preferred, but not required

Ability to Frequently walk and stand for extended periods; climb stairs, ladders, and step stools; crawl, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, and twist; balance objects, lift, push, pull and carry objects or materials weighing up to 50 lbs.; operate foot controls on vehicles and equipment; speak clearly and hear when operating telephone, two-way radio, and in face-to-face situations; and distinguish colors; use of hand tools and shoulders in a back and forth fashion.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job the employee will work outside in all weather conditions most of the time, this includes wet, damp, extreme heat, cold, ice, and possibly snow. The employee will occasionally work inside a City facility.

Frequently exposed to moderate to high noise levels during the normal duties of the job.
