SUMMARY

Performs professional communications, marketing, tourism, and administrative support activities for the Director. Assists with the planning and implementation of public information initiatives, digital communications, special events, tourism promotion, publications, website management, community engagement, sponsorship administration, research, and emergency communications while providing administrative support to the Director. Serves as backup Public Information Officer (PIO) as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists the Director of Communications and Marketing in planning, coordinating, and implementing communications, marketing, tourism, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Administers the City's Community Banner Program by coordinating applications, maintaining schedules and records, communicating with participating organizations, coordinating installations and removals with City departments, and ensuring compliance with established program guidelines.
  • Administers sponsorship programs by coordinating sponsor communications, maintaining sponsorship records, tracking sponsorship benefits, and assisting with sponsor recognition for City events and community initiatives.
  • Coordinates vendor registration, participant communications, and event databases for assigned programs and special events.
  • Maintains the Visitor Information Kiosk and ensures tourism information is current and consistent with regional visitor information centers.
  • Supervises temporary staff and volunteers during special events as assigned.
  • Serves as an additional administrator for official City social media platforms as directed.
  • Creates, schedules, and publishes content across City social media platforms and digital communication channels consistent with departmental branding and communication standards as directed.
  • Maintains and updates City website content to ensure information is current, accurate, accessible, and consistent with City standards.
  • Conducts surveys, research, and data collection to support departmental initiatives and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Provides support for the biannual publication of INSIDE ANGLETON by coordinating interviews, gathering information, taking photographs, and assisting with article development as needed.
  • Assists with photography, videography, and digital asset management for City communications, publications, tourism initiatives, and special events.
  • Attend meetings and represent the Communications Department as assigned.
  • Serves as directed as the Communications Point of Contact during Emergency Operations Center activation.
  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships with sponsors, vendors, volunteers, community organizations, tourism partners, and event participants.
  • Processes departmental purchase orders.
  • May attend City Council meetings, staff meetings, public meetings, special events, and community functions as assigned to provide communications support as directed.
  • Assists with tracking departmental projects, schedules, budgets, event logistics, and performance measures.
  • Assists with emergency public information activities before, during, and after emergency incidents as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a closely related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, public information, tourism, event coordination, or a related field.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain all required National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command System (ICS), and other emergency management training required to perform the duties of a Tier I Emergency Operations Center Communications position.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver's license in good standing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Considerable knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, and codes governing municipal government record keeping, public meetings, City elections, and municipal administrative
management practices and procedures.

  • Ability to maintain composure in high-stress situations.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace, stay organized, and meet deadlines with multiple projects.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed for events and emergency operations.
  • Working knowledge of effective communication and marketing principles and practices.
  • Working knowledge of public communication principles and methods.
  • Working knowledge of digital marketing, website content management, print production, graphic design, and digital content creation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff, elected officials, vendors, sponsors, community organizations, media, and the public.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and CivicRec or similar registration software.
  • I prefer a working knowledge of Canva, survey platforms, website content management systems, and related communications software.
