JOB SUMMARY

Assists in promoting appreciation for physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. This position provides leadership and supervision of the “Road Warriors” Summer Track Program, Summer Youth Volleyball League, and other recreational programs throughout the summer. Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants and perform other duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Regular and timely attendance at work.
  • Maintain a positive atmosphere for youth through camp and athletic activities.
  • Responsible for leading or assisting with camp activities.
  • Actively participate in all assigned program areas.
  • Be a role model to campers, participants, and staff in your attitude and behavior.
  • Represent the camp and athletics programs when interacting with parents or community members.
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of programs and activities to meet the intended program outcomes.
  • Ensures athletic activities conform to the City and Angleton ISD guidelines
  • Supervise participants to promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and adherence to program rules.
  • Set up and break down equipment for track and volleyball sessions, ensuring all areas are safe and properly maintained.
  • Help organize game days and track meets by managing event logistics, including scoring, scheduling, accurate timing, and proper event setup to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintain a safe and controlled environment; identify hazardous conditions and eliminate or minimize such.
  • Properly supervise campers at all times. 
  • Attend training and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Officiate youth athletic games in accordance with league rules and standards, as assigned.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with participants, coaches, and spectators regarding program standards, rules, policies, or procedures.
  • Monitor participants' conduct and address any unsportsmanlike behavior or rule violations appropriately.
  • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance are adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to the supervisor. 
  • Provide assistance and information to campers and parents regarding programs, activities, and events. 
  • Arrange equipment, supplies, chairs, and tables in designated rooms or other areas for scheduled games and programs. 
  • Demonstrate proper methods of equipment storage and cleaning to safeguard facilities and equipment. 
  • Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communication as requested. 
  • Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers and participants in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury)
  • Must be able to manage children aged five to seventeen years in a disciplined and friendly manner. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

The preferred way to obtain the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below. The city reserves the right to allow substitutions in the event that a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.

 

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or currently enrolled in high school.
  • A minimum of one (1) summer of track and field or running experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with children is preferred. 

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or the ability to obtain during staff training.
