Description

 SUMMARY

Responsible for the professional administration of the Municipal Court operations. Plans, coordinates, and directs the non-judicial services, activities, and operations of the Municipal Court. Establishes, develops, monitors interprets, and enforces policies and procedures set by the judge, prosecutor, and the laws of the state and city. Acts as the court coordinator and the court’s project manager. Research, compile, evaluate, and analyze the court statistical data. Acts as the Court Clerk of the Municipal Court in accordance with state law, city charter, and ordinances. This position requires extensive knowledge of municipal court operations and municipal court law. Performs a wide variety of complex, responsible, and confidential administrative duties in direct support of the municipal court. Must exercise a high degree of independent judgment and discretion. Handles issues and information of a sensitive nature.

 

**This position requires a criminal background check and is required to always maintain a current Texas drivers’ license in good standing. Must be bondable.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the planning, scheduling, and coordinating activities of the municipal court
  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates the court staff; administers disciplinary actions.
  • Develops, monitors interprets and enforces policies and procedures for department operations. Responsible for implementing the policies the Municipal Judge establishes for administering court policy and procedures.
  • Prepares, edits, and revises department correspondence and procedures.
  • Responsible for developing, supervising, and monitoring a case flow management system.
  • Maintains the court’s software to ensure it effectively meets the needs of the court; makes updates to and manipulates the software for efficiency.
  • Researches, compiles, and evaluates court statistical data, and prepares monthly reports including reports to the Texas Judicial Council/Office of Court Administration, the State Comptroller, the Department of Public Safety, and others.
  • Prepares financial and statistical reports for the department.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, and LICENSE

Education & Experience

  • HS Diploma required. 
  • 4 years administrative court experience 
  • 2 year business experience required

Special License, Certification, and Designation

  • Must currently hold the title Certified Municipal Court Clerk Level II
  • Certified Municipal Court Clerk (CMCC) preferred or must be obtained within 3 years of hire date.

  • Requires excellent verbal/written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, strong technology skills.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in utilizing computer applications.
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct a variety of activities.
  • Must be able to analyze data and interpret written material.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work with detailed-oriented information.
  • Skilled in public/employee relations and problem-solving.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress, and challenging environment.
  • Ability to deal with conflict in a courteous, tactful manner.
  • Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Municipal Judge, Prosecutor, City Manager, city employees, and the public.
  • Required to abide by the Canons of Judicial Conduct as it applies to Municipal Court staff.

Office environment, the employee is required to keep their personal workspace in a reasonable and organized manner. This job is typically office-based with little to no exposure to the outdoor elements. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may increase on court days.
