SUMMARY
Performs various duties associated with implementing and coordinating recreation programs, classes, and activities. Plans, coordinates, and assists with program registration, leisure and recreational programming, and various outreach programs for the Angleton senior community.

 

**This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

 

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts the following duties, where a momentary lapse of attention can have a disastrous consequence to the employee or the public:

  • Supervise senior citizens on trips
  • Operate 24-passenger bus for recreation programming
  • Responsible for making split-second decisions to implement the emergency action plan as it relates to emergencies in or about the Recreation Center

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, coordinate, maintain, implement, and record programs, classes, and activities for the senior citizen populations within the City. Programs include, but are not limited to daily programs, monthly trips, lunch bunch, lunch and learns, and semi-annual parties
  • Responsible for requesting and obtaining donations and contributions for semi-annual events
  • Create and facilitate a positive environment for members through relationship building, meaningful interactions, and genuine interest; excellent interpersonal skills required
  • Schedule, coordinate and record Senior Commission Board meetings
  • Coordinates, prepares, and maintains records, reports, and budgets as needed for the successful operation of senior programs and events Maintain inventory and purchase supplies when necessary
  • Receives and responds appropriately to citizen inquiries and complaints; routes call to appropriate City personnel
  • Maintain a clean facility before, during and after events and programs
  • Respond to and report accidents and incidents in accordance with organizational emergency action plan
  • Responsible for complying with all prescribed safety rules and regulations
  • Drive recreation program participants to and from trips; including but not limited to the Houston-Metropolitan area, Brazoria County, the Texas Hill Country, and Louisiana
  • Responsible to supervise senior citizens participating in programs and events
  • Responsible for making split-second decisions to implement the emergency action plan, as it relates to emergencies in or about the Recreation Center involving children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities
  • Performs a variety of miscellaneous office duties such as answering phones, typing, filing, and other duties as assigned
  • Expected to maintain regular required attendance
  • Expected to perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING (Certification/Licensure):
  • The preferred way to obtain the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below. The city reserves the right to allow substitutions if a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another
 
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, sports management, communication, or related field preferred
  • 10 years of experience may be substituted for education.
 
Special Licenses, Certifications and Designations
  • Food Handler’s License preferred or ability to obtain within six months of hire
  • Applicant must have a valid Texas Drivers’ License in good standing
  • Must have, or be able to obtain/maintain within 6 months of hire American Red Cross First Aid and CPR with AED
  • Must have, or be able to obtain/maintain within 6 months of hire, a CDL license
