**Must be available to work weekday evenings and weekends.

 

** This position is safety-sensitive and subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

 

SUMMARY

The incumbent in this position ensures the facility is used correctly, that staff members complete assigned tasks, and that complaints, suggestions, and situations are handled professionally and courteously. They ensure that necessary discipline is carried out fairly and consistently. Assist in overseeing the daily operations of the front desk, including cash handling, membership sales, and maintaining a thorough understanding of current and upcoming events. The Assistant will monitor access to the Recreation Center, welcome guests, answer phones, and ensure the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies while delivering outstanding customer service.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Always act professionally.

  • Regular and timely attendance at work.
  • Assist with management with oversight of the Angleton Recreation Center, serving as the manager on duty.
  • Support Front Desk Clerks by ensuring department policies and procedures are followed; help enforce rules and regulations regarding the proper use of the facility by guests and members through regular facility walk-throughs.
  • Provide citizens with knowledgeable information on recreation programs, activities, trips, membership fees, and rental details.
  • Arrange chairs, tables, and sporting and exercise equipment in designated rooms or other areas for scheduled group activities such as parties, meetings, and other events.
  • Demonstrate proper methods for storing and cleaning equipment to safeguard facilities and equipment.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean and sanitary facility. Daily duties include cleaning the front desk area, counters, and floors; taking out the trash and recycling; cleaning weight room equipment and floors; cleaning restrooms; washing towels; mopping floors; and performing other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe and controlled environment by identifying hazardous conditions and eliminating or minimizing them.
  • Monitor access to the Angleton Recreation Center by ensuring memberships are up to date and that others are paying for day use and signing in before granting admission to the facility.
  • Issue equipment to be used by participants; track loaned equipment until it is returned to the front desk; inspect it for damage.
  • Be knowledgeable in program registration, membership sales, and rental procedures, and maintain a balanced cash register. Report irregularities and deficiencies to the supervisor or manager promptly.
  • Keep non-public areas secure at all times.
  • Be prepared and organized.
  • Recognize and respond effectively to incidents and emergencies. Provide appropriate emergency care, including first aid, CPR, and the use of an AED when necessary.
  • Employees are expected to report to work free from the effects of illegal drugs or alcohol and free from impairment due to prescription drugs.
  • Expected to perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

The preferred method for obtaining the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position is outlined below. The City reserves the right to allow substitutions if a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.

Education and Experience

  • A high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate is preferred.
  • One year of experience in cash handling is preferred.

Special License, Certifications, and Designations

    • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License in good standing and must be able to maintain.
    • Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
